David Best


David Best is a recording artist, inspirational speaker and award-winning author who has encouraged thousands of people in over 24 countries to discover their true worth and potential as persons made in the image of God.

As cofounder/President of Towel & Basin--an international resourcing group helping individuals and organizations develop their God-given visions--David challenges leaders to combine "success with significance through service," and bring servant hearts and hands to human hurts. 

Before assuming this position in March, 1994, David Best served nearly seven years as Pastor/Director of The Lamb's Manhattan Church of the Nazarene and The Lamb's Center in 
New York City.  Prior to this, he was the director of Compassionate Ministries for the Los Angeles District Church of the Nazarene.

Towel & Basin provides consulting, motivational and training resources to equip persons to be lifelong servants of God's justice and peace in their communities and the world. In 1994-95, this involved David spending many months in the former Soviet Union training national leadership for churches and helping develop humanitarian organizations in the republic of Ukraine.

For over three decades David Best has been actively involved with cross-cultural and urban missions. He has initiated or helped plant new churches, train indigenous leaders and coordinate humanitarian relief projects which have provided well over $10.5 million in assistance to Mexico, Nicaragua, India, the Crimea, The Balkans the Middle East and numerous cities of the United States.

David is an ordained minister in the Church of the Nazarene. He has pastored churches in California, New York City, and Kiev, Ukraine, and held assignments with the General Church as a program director, editor, missionary, and consultant for urban ministries.

He coordinates the Center for Urban Strategy Development, a division of Towel & Basin located in New York City. As a training and resourcing center, CUSD offers seminars and consultations for urban pastors and lay workers.

David is an award-winning author. He has written a feature column and been a regular contributor for magazines. His books include The Urban Imperative and the highly acclaimed Successfully Serving the City and editor of several others. He also edited an award-winning national magazine for college students.  David helped create and was host of CompassionNOW!, a satellite television program beamed to over 3 million people.

A songwriter and singer, David is a founding member of Mountain Glory, a pioneer group in contemporary Christian music that has now performed for over 40 years. Today, David is working on new music projects and has reestablished a family music publishing company.

His speaking and singing have taken David to colleges, retreats, churches, leadership development seminars, urban and mission conferences. He has consulted with urban ministries, international mission agencies, other not-for-profit, and for-profit enterprises.

He holds the B.A. in history and M.A. in religion with an emphasis on theology and ethics.
